Amazing achievement for Stevenage born F1 champion as he becomes the joint second most successful driver of all time

Stevenage is congratulating Lewis Hamilton and celebrating his incredible achievement of a fifth Formula One championship. The 33-year-old is the equal second most successful driver in history. At yesterday’s Mexican Grand Prix held at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico, he drew level with Argentine Juan Manuel Fangio’s impressive record.

Cllr Sharon Taylor, Leader of Stevenage Borough Council said

“Lewis’ outstanding achievement is the incredible result of his determination, vision, hard work and absolute passion for his sport. Our FIVE TIMES world champion F1 driver today wrote his name as an international sporting legend. Lewis Hamilton, your home Town Stevenage is full of pride and admiration. Congratulations!!”

Cllr Richard Henry, Executive Member for Children, Young People and Leisure said:

“What a truly magnificent achievement! Congratulations to Lewis, we are so proud of you and hope your outstanding record receives the national recognition it deserves.  We will be recognising Lewis’s exceptional career as we bring our newly regenerated town centre to life.  Our brand new “Lewis Hamilton Hub” will be named in his honour to celebrate our local hero.”

Further celebrations across the town of Stevenage will include a specially dedicated section of our Fireworks display at Fairlands Valley Park on 5 November. An audience of approximately 25,000 people will enjoy the biggest free firework show in the area. It will be synchronised to music through a rock show sound system.
