Stevenage Against Domestic Abuse launches in North Herts

22 Aug 2018

The Stevenage Against Domestic Abuse (SADA) will be launching in North Herts on Wednesday 22 August 2018. SADA works closely and in partnership with Hertfordshire Police, North Hertfordshire District Council (NHDC) and has a number of volunteers supporting the service.

This ground-breaking service was set up in 2015 in Stevenage to support all victims of domestic abuse. To date, SADA has helped 337 clients. The service is expanding to North Herts and will offer clients drop-in sessions for victims, their family and survivors in Stevenage and North Herts.

The SADA service has also set up a ‘Champions Network’ across Stevenage and North Herts, made up of professionals from across different sectors and organisations, with the aim of sharing best practice, supporting victims and each other. SADA hopes to gain further exposure of their work and offer support to everyone regardless of gender, sexuality, age or cultural background. SADA hope by highlighting this ground breaking work it will enable more survivors to get the right support for them and their families.

Cllr Sharon Taylor, Leader of Stevenage Borough Council added, “Domestic Abuse touches families everywhere. It has no respect of class, age, religion, gender or financial circumstances.  That is why it is so important that support services are made as widely available as possible and this launch demonstrates that by the expansion of our services to support those who need our help. I hope the vision and impact SADA has made in Stevenage continues and I welcome its expansion into North Herts.”

Cllr Bernard Lovewell, NHDC Executive Member for Housing and Environmental Health said, “NHDC is committed to protecting and supporting the most vulnerable members of our community.  The launch of SADA in North Herts is a welcomed addition to NHDC’s service for victims of domestic abuse and we look forward to working in partnership with them to help tackle this issue as effectively as possible”.

SADA are looking to their widen reach and are looking to recruit more volunteers to support the service. If you would like to get involved please contact the Community Safety Team on 01438 242666 or
