Children add the sparkle to Lights Switch On

04 Nov 2016

Children from play centres across Stevenage will make the town centre sparkle on Thursday 24 November at Stevenage Borough Council’s Christmas Lights Switch On.

As part of the year-long celebrations to mark 50 years of playwork in Stevenage, children from St Nicholas, Bandley Hill and Pin Green had the privilege of making baubles for the Christmas tree in the Town Square.

The children’s decorations will dazzle under the Christmas Lights following the switch on at 6.30pm before a firework finale brings the show to a close. Former M People singer Heather Small headlines the spectacular show, which starts at 4pm when music and dance talent from across Stevenage – as well as the cast of this year’s Peter Pan pantomime at the Gordon Craig Theatre – take to a new in-the-round stage.

Late-night shopping is also on offer at stores across the town centre and free car parking is available from 3pm at St George’s Way multi-storey, Westgate multi-storey, Marshgate, and The Forum.

Councillor Richard Henry, Executive Member for Children, Young People and Leisure at Stevenage Borough Council, said: “Our talented young people in Stevenage have done a brilliant job in adding to the glitz and glamour of our Christmas Lights Switch On show by making the decorations for the Christmas tree. I can’t wait to see what they look like on the tree when they’re lit up after the Christmas Lights have been switched on.”
