Reach for the stars this half term

14 Oct 2016

Young people in Stevenage can take a trip back in time or reach for the stars as Stevenage Borough Council has a range of exciting activities on offer this half term.

As part of the 50 Years of Playwork celebrations, children who attend Pin Green, Bandley Hill and St Nicholas play centres will recreate some vintage adventure playground photos on Tuesday 25 October.

Other activities at our play centres include a Pokémon hunt, ceramic tile painting, and haunted house junk modelling. Stevenage residents who are aged five to 14 are welcome at the play centres, which open from 9am till 12.30pm and from 1.30pm till 5pm on Monday 24 to Friday 28 October.

Stevenage Museum goes out of this world during half term with a number of space-themed activities. Arty aliens and unbelievable UFOs pay a visit on Wednesday 26 October, take a tour of the solar system by making a planet mobile on Thursday 27 October and blast off with model rockets on Friday morning. Sessions take place between 11am and 12pm, and 2pm and 3pm at a cost of £2 per child. Everyone is free to attend the art and craft drop-in session on Friday afternoon. A spooky afternoon of Halloween fun takes place on Saturday 29 October from 3.30pm to 6pm at a cost of £3.

A ‘Half Term Hoot’ comes to the Town Centre Gardens on Wednesday 26 October from 11am to 3pm. Visitors will be able to go on a tree trail with spooky surprises, watch an owl display, take part in craft activities, and have their faces painted (£2 charge).

Councillor Richard Henry, Executive Member for Children and Young People, said: “Half term activities at our play centres are extra special this year as children can get involved in celebrations for 50 years of Playwork. We’ve got a proud history of providing free play services in Stevenage and this half term the children can recreate some of our favourite play centre moments over the last 50 years.”
