More quality council homes on the way

Stevenage Borough Council has commissioned four homes currently being built at Vincent Court, Fishers Green Road as part of its aim to provide high quality, affordable housing for Stevenage people.

The four two-bedroom homes, which are being built by Keepmoat to the council’s specification, will be ready by early 2017. Children from Rookies Day Nursery, Broadhall Way have played their part in the development at Vincent Court by designing some of the onsite hoarding.

Already this year, the council has built eight new apartments at Archer Road and bought five homes at Meredith Road to let to people on the housing register. More projects are on the way next year as the council is working with a local developer to transform the former March Hare and Twin Foxes pub sites into new council homes.

Councillor Jeannette Thomas, Executive Member for Housing, Health and Older People, said: “It’s an exciting time for us in Stevenage as we are doing something that not many other authorities are able to – using our internal resources to provide quality new council homes for people on the housing register.

“We are always looking at ways of boosting the number of affordable homes available for Stevenage people and these properties in Vincent Court are just the latest in our efforts to provide more than 500 new council homes in the town over the next ten years. I look forward to welcoming residents to these homes in the future.”
