Residents go behind the scenes at Depot Day

26 Jul 2016

Stevenage Borough Council gave people a behind the scenes tour of its environmental services depot on Saturday so residents could see what happens to their recycling after it is collected.

Around 50 visitors attended the fifth annual Depot Day and they all got the chance to tour the depot, meet some of the team that work there and hear about what they do. Children also got the opportunity to climb aboard a freighter and have a go at lifting bins into the back of the lorry before watching the recycling being tipped into the different bays in the transfer station.

Councillor John Gardner, Executive Member for Environment and Regeneration, said: “Depot Day was a fantastic chance for people from Stevenage to see the work that goes on at our environmental services depot.

“Last year our refuse and recycling teams collected 656 tonnes of plastic, 1,786 tonnes of glass and 3,121 tonnes of paper and cardboard. I hope that people from Stevenage continue to recycle as much as possible and I’m sure those who attended Depot Day will help spread the word about the benefits of recycling.”
