Compost Day for Stevenage residents

27 Apr 2016

Stevenage families can get their hands dirty and collect some of the 10 tonnes of free compost Stevenage Borough Council and its partners are giving away at a Compost Day event on Saturday 7 May.

Residents are invited to attend the event, which takes place from 10am to 1pm (or until the compost is gone) at Hampson Park, to learn more about home composting and planting seeds for their garden.

Visitors can also plant sunflowers, make badges, collect free compostable liners, and fill their bags with free compost made from the waste collected from their brown bins.

Stevenage Borough Council’s Strategic Director Matt Partridge: “Summer is just around the corner and this event will provide you with everything you need to help your garden flourish. It is also a great way to give something back to the residents who put their food and garden waste in the brown bin to help reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill sites.”

Residents interested in taking away compost will need to bring their own shovels and bags as the compost is available loose. For further information visit
