Council’s Play team win annual award

Stevenage Borough Council’s Play team were crowned Development and Support winners at the Annual Playwork Awards on Tuesday 1 March.

The Play team fought of competition from three other nominees to take home the prestigious award after being recognised for the way they have made a difference to children by providing a sustainable free play service, developing training packages for other play teams and working in schools to support play sessions.

The Annual Playwork Awards celebrate people and organisations that have made a noticeable contribution and difference to the lives of those they work with.

Councillor Richard Henry, Executive Member for Children, Young People and Leisure, said: “In the year we mark 50 years of playwork in Stevenage this is a great way to start the celebrations. The Annual Playwork Awards are the bench mark of good practice for play services and I am extremely proud that the Play team have been recognised for all their hard work. Our team often go above and beyond to deliver engaging and effective play services and I would like to thank them for all their efforts.”

We are celebrating 50 years of play in Stevenage from August 2016 to August 2017.
