Refurbished play area opens in Town Centre

Stevenage Borough Council got into the swing of the New Year by opening a newly refurbished play area in the Town Centre on Monday 4 January.

The play area, located at the top of Market Place and Queensway, gives little ones the chance to climb, spring and slide safely on the new equipment in the soft-impact zone.

Mayor Howard Burrell, Council Leader Sharon Taylor, Deputy Leader John Gardner, Councillor Ralph Raynor and Stevenage Borough Council Chief Executive Scott Crudgington were all in attendance at the opening of the play area.

The work was carried out as part of the improvements to the Town Centre, which have also included new street furniture and tree-lined avenues aimed at creating a more memorable townscape.

Councillor Sharon Taylor, Leader of Stevenage Borough Council, said: “This is a great fun-filled play area and replaces the out-of-date equipment to create a modern facility for young children. Along with the play area, we have worked hard over recent months to smarten up the Town Centre by installing new street furniture and planting new trees and I hope residents and visitors to Stevenage will enjoy the changes.”
