Celebrate Older People’s Day in Stevenage

28 Sep 2015

Music and dance will descend on the Town Square when Stevenage Borough Council, together with the Older People’s Network, celebrate National Older People’s Day on Wednesday 7 October.

The special event, which will take place between 10am and 2pm, aims to promote social and healthy lifestyles for older people in Stevenage and is open to all residents who want to find out more about the local services available.

Activities including music, dance and exercise will be on offer as will interactive stands providing health checks, information and advice. Stevenage Leisure Limited will also be bringing older residents to join them for a live zumba and salsa class.

Around 30 local organisations will be on hand to discuss areas such as care, support, benefits, community services, fire safety and policing, and keeping safe in Stevenage.

Councillor Jeanette Thomas, Executive member for Communities, Health and Older People, said: “Stevenage’s older residents are an integral part of the community. I’m pleased this event will recognise them and offer them a chance to find out more about the support and social groups available. It promises to be a great celebration.”

The Older People’s Network brings together most of the local service providers to discuss local issues and improve communication between the public and providers.  The aim is to raise awareness of the help available and how to access it.
