17 Sep 2015

Stevenage Borough council has appointed Ash Ahmed as Assistant Director for Housing Development and Zayd Al-Jawad as Head of Planning and Engineering.
Ash joins Stevenage from Basildon Borough Council where he spent seven years developing and implementing the Council’s Estate Regeneration and Housing Development plans. He has been involved in public sector regeneration projects since 1999, working for County and District councils as well as Housing Associations.
He is tasked with providing a new mix of affordable housing types that will help to create balanced, sustainable communities where people want to live.
Ash lives with his wife and two children in Essex, having grown up in Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire. He has a keen interest in sports, particularly cricket, but his main passion is centred on property design, its construction and its enduring impact on the end user.
Zayd, who has 15 years’ experience in the planning sector, joins Stevenage from Southwark Council where he spent four years as a Planning Manager.
Regenerating Stevenage is a hot topic and Zayd will be responsible for leading on the council’s local plan adoption and supporting new sustainable development.
He grew up in Warrington but has spent the last 15 years living in Brixton, south London. Zayd enjoys travelling, walking, music and cinema in his spare time.
Councillor Joan Lloyd, Executive Member for Resources at Stevenage Borough Council, said: “These two senior appointments at the council will help us deliver one of our key priorities of developing the town and creating more affordable, quality housing. Ash and Zayd’s experience will be of huge benefit to us and I wish them every success at Stevenage Borough Council.”
