Residents go behind the scenes at Depot Day

01 Aug 2017

Families were given a behind the scenes tour of Stevenage Borough Council’s environmental services depot on Saturday to see what happens to their recycling after it is collected.

Around 40 visitors attended the sixth annual Depot Day and they all got the chance to tour the depot, meet some of the team that work there and hear about what they do and why recycling is important.

Children also got the opportunity to climb aboard a freighter and have a go at lifting bins into the back of the lorry before watching the recycling being tipped into the different bays in the transfer station.

Councillor John Gardner, Executive Member for Environment and Regeneration, said: “Last year our refuse and recycling teams collected 32,000 tonnes of waste from 36,290 households so Depot Day gives us a chance to show Stevenage people the benefits of recycling and the hard work that goes into collecting it.

“Thank you to everyone that came along to Depot Day and I hope that people from Stevenage continue to recycle as much as possible.”
