Celebrate!!! to remember Cllr Sherma Batson MBE

13 Jun 2017

Celebrate!!!, a showcase of multi-cultural performances, returns to The Gordon Craig Theatre on Saturday 28 October in memory of the late Cllr Sherma Batson MBE.

Sherma, who spent 12 years as a Stevenage councillor and served as Mayor for 2014/15, died in January at the age of 59. She co-founded Stevenage World Forum in the late 1990s and through the forum organised Celebrate!!!, which falls in Black History month.

Since it began in 2002, more than 1,100 performers have participated in Celebrate!!! and this year an array of music and dance talent will take to the stage in tribute to Sherma to highlight the different cultures that flourish across Stevenage.

Kate Belinis, Chair of Stevenage World Forum said: “It’s a great honour for us to dedicate this year’s Celebrate!!! to our dear friend Sherma. We will always be thankful to her for organising Celebrate!!! as a way to bring people from all communities together so this year’s event will be extra special as we remember her.

“We’re doing things slightly differently this year as we’re looking for more group acts and audience participation to help us celebrate the rich and vibrant cultures that this town has produced. We will be announcing our great line up of entertainment soon so remember to put Saturday 28 October in your diary.

“Tickets will shortly be available for the show for a cost of just £7.50 and they can be purchased online at www.gordon-craig.co.uk or by calling the box office on 01438 363200.”
