Hospital parking headaches to ease

30 Aug 2016

New measures to address parking problems around Lister Hospital will come into effect from Monday 5 September. Stevenage Borough Council has introduced the measures in response to concerns from local residents and East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust.

New and existing parking bays on Coreys Mill Lane and North Road will become pay and display with charges of up to £2 for three hours, blue badge holders will no longer be able to park on double yellow lines, and there will be yellow lines in some surrounding residential streets including Tates Way, Chancellors Road, Herne Road and The Old Walled Garden.

The measures are aimed at increasing parking capacity and reducing congestion in the roads around the hospital, which have caused problems for ambulances trying to get in and out. They will also improve the parking experience for residents in the surrounding streets.

Cllr Ralph Raynor, Executive Member for Economy, Enterprise and Transport at Stevenage Borough Council, said: “We’ve seen an increase in traffic complaints since the expansion of the Lister Hospital started and there has been a significant amount of inconsiderate and potentially dangerous parking in and around Coreys Mill Lane. Local residents asked for a solution to the parking problems so we consulted with them to find ways of easing their concerns. We will stay in contact with the residents to make sure we are making the streets as obstruction free and safe as possible.”
