Family Fun at Fairlands Valley Park Open Day

21 Jun 2016

Families from across Stevenage enjoyed a wide range of activities, including sailing, model boating and fishing at this year’s Fairlands Valley Park Open Day on Saturday.

Now in its sixth year, visitors to the free family fun day also had the chance to climb aboard the police and fire brigade’s emergency vehicles, while children took part in badge making and face painting.

The Mayor of Stevenage, Councillor John Lloyd, and Mayoress, Councillor Joan Lloyd, were in attendance and they met with all of the groups that were delivering activities at the event. The Mayor helped to judge the Best Child Dog Handler competition run by Stevenage Dogwatch, and the Mayoress had fun controlling a model boat.

Councillor John Gardner, Executive Member for Environment and Regeneration, said: “Fairlands Valley Open Day was a great way to spend a Saturday and make the most of one of the many parks we have in Stevenage.

“I am pleased those people who came along to the open day had the chance to meet local organisations and try some of the many activities that are on offer in the park. Whether it was sailing or climbing, I hope visitors went home with a new hobby to take up.”
