Council grants Christmas wishes

18 Dec 2015

Stevenage groups will be having special Christmas celebrations this festive season thanks to funding from Stevenage councillors’ Local Community Budgets.

Throughout the year, community groups, organisations or charities can ask their local ward councillors for a contribution to Christmas lunches, parties or events.

This year, the Local Community Budget has supported a variety of seasonal projects including:
• Warriorz performing arts academy “Good Old Days Christmas Tour” at Stevenage care homes.
• Springfield House seasonal community events
• Oval Community Centre Christmas family disco
• Children’s Christmas parties at the Shephall Centre and Bedwell Bunnies Christmas party
• Christmas lunch for the Irish Network Stevenage and an Age Concern volunteer post-Christmas meal

Councillor Simon Speller, Executive Member for Neighbourhoods and Co-Operative Council, said: “The Local Community Budget scheme can make a big difference to so many groups, organisations and charities in Stevenage so I’m glad that we’re helping the town come together. I hope these grants will spread the festive cheer a little further, and give everyone the chance to get involved in their community – particularly those people on their own at Christmas.”

Local Community Budgets can provide grant support for a community project, organisation, charity or local group to benefit the communities they represent. If you have ideas on how to improve your neighbourhood or a community project and need financial help, you can apply to your local ward councillor.
