Stevenage’s new skatepark opens this weekend

03 Aug 2015

Professional and amateur skaters will take to their wheels at Hampson Park this Saturday after the Mayor of Stevenage officially opens the new skatepark.

Everyone is invited to attend the opening ceremony, which starts at 12 noon this Saturday 8 August. There will be demonstrations by professional skaters, competitions and giveaways, and the opportunity to have a go on the brand new facility.

This exciting new free skatepark will then be open for all local enthusiasts - from experienced skaters to complete beginners - to enjoy. Provided by Stevenage Borough Council and designed with the help of local people, its features include a 1.2m-high mini ramp section, quarter pipes, and a waterfall into open bowl section. It has been built by Wheelscape skateparks.

Cllr Richard Henry, Executive Member for Children, Young People and Leisure, said, “Skaters in Stevenage have been asking us to provide a new custom-built skatepark for some time, and we’re very excited that it’s now built and ready to open.

“I hope lots of people will come and join us at Hampson Park on Saturday to watch some pro skaters in action and get inspired to have a go themselves.”
