Fantastic new play area opens for business

Delighted youngsters joined Stevenage’s Deputy Mayor Cllr John Lloyd and Mayoress, Cllr Joan Lloyd, to open a new play area at Ridlins Playing Fields last week, just in time for the summer holidays.

The new play area, developed by Stevenage Borough Council in partnership with HAGS-SMP Play Ltd, caters for children of all ages from toddlers to teenagers. It features a range of new equipment and a full suite of outdoor gym equipment. Its design was influenced by the views of local children and young people, who told the council what they would like to see there.

Cllr Sharon Taylor, Leader of Stevenage Borough Council, said, “This is a great new facility for youngsters and replaces the out-of-date equipment that was here before. I’d like to thank all of the young people – and parents – who took the time to tell us what they’d like the play area to feature. With their input, we’ve managed to create a facility that is already being well used and much admired.”

Several people have taken to social media to share their views on the new play area. Comments include “I must say how fantastic it is down there now and something for all ages to do” and “SBC must be congratulated on the wonderful new play equipment that they have installed in Ridlins End playing fields, next to the running track! There is something for all ages including a well-equipped fenced area with swings and climbing frames for the tiny ones. I am really impressed…”
