Stevenage Borough Council appoints new Chief Executive

26 Feb 2015

Stevenage Borough Councillors this evening confirmed the appointment of Scott Crudgington as the council’s new Chief Executive. He will take up the post on 1 June 2015 following the retirement of the current Chief Executive, Nick Parry.

Scott, 43, joined Stevenage Borough Council in 2001 and is currently the authority’s Strategic Director (Resources) and Deputy Chief Executive. His career in local government spans more than 25 years and includes 10 years at the London Borough of Redbridge. He has an extensive track record of change management and service modernisation and, during his time at Stevenage, he has been instrumental in safely steering the council through one of the most turbulent financial periods in the history of local government. Scott’s specific achievements include developing a range of shared services with other councils in Hertfordshire, which have helped to reduce the cost to the taxpayer and improve the services provided.

Cllr Sharon Taylor, Leader of Stevenage Borough Council, said, “I would like to be the first to congratulate Scott on his appointment and I look forward to him taking up this important leadership role at the council. I know that he has a detailed understanding of our town and this authority, and he is developing some exciting plans for the future of both.

“We went through a rigorous recruitment process to ensure that we selected the best candidate, and I am grateful for the work of the appointments committee and our independent advisor in helping us reach this decision.”

She added, “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Nick Parry for serving as Chief Executive for the past six years. I’m sure I speak for my fellow councillors in wishing him a long and happy retirement.”

Scott Crudgington said, “I am honoured to have been invited to become Chief Executive of Stevenage Borough Council. This organisation has always strived to make a difference to people’s lives and the decisions we will be taking over the coming months – relating to the regeneration of the town centre and development of council housing – will have a lasting impact on the town’s future. As Chief Executive I have a critical role in navigating us through these important choices and I am excited about the challenges that this presents.

“This town has an inherent community spirit and I strongly believe that communities are at the heart of our society. I have built up a strong connection with Stevenage and its people over the past 14 years and I will be bringing to my new role a passion for providing services that are focussed on the needs of our residents.”

Scott is a qualified accountant through the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) and is concluding his final year of a Masters in Business Administration at Warwick University. He lives in Letchworth Garden City and is married with three children. Outside of work, Scott relaxes by running 10ks and playing golf.
