Entertain the children this half-term

09 Feb 2015

This half term, Stevenage Borough Council has a range of activities on offer for children. From Georgian themed fun at Stevenage Museum to birds nest making in St Nicholas Park, there is something for everyone.

Stevenage Museum is offering three Georgian themed sessions taking place on the following dates:

Wednesday 18 February – Georgian hats and wigs
10.30 to 11.30am, and 2 to 3pm
Children will get the opportunity to make a tricorn hat fit for a highwayman of a fabulous Georgian wig. Places are limited and cost £2 per child.

Thursday 19 February – Georgian games
10.30 to 11.30am, and 2 to 3pm
This session will give children the chance to learn how to play some of the games that Georgian children loved to play. From hopscotch to hoop games, they’ll also get to make a hoop and sticks to take home to play. Places are limited and cost £2 per child.

Friday 20 February – Georgian arts and crafts
10.30am to 12noon and 2 to 3.30pm
This free drop in session gives children the chance to get stuck in making Georgian arts and crafts.

For those more interested in nature than history, on Wednesday 18 February a bird nest box event will be taking place at St Nicholas Park, from 11am to 3pm. Children will have the opportunity to make a bird feeder for their garden and a nest box to take home. To take part in the bird nest boxing making activity, you will need to book your place and materials for £3.

The play centres within Stevenage are also open during half term, offering a variety of activities for children aged five to 14.

Councillor Howard Burrell, Executive Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport said, “Half-tem is a chance for children to get out and about and have fun. Whether they’re finding out about the Georgians, learning how to make a bird’s nest or visiting one of our three play centres, there is something for everyone this half-term.”
