Arts and crafts classes at Stevenage Museum

23 Jan 2015

Stevenage Museum is offering arts and crafts enthusiasts a chance to develop their skills with a series of classes for children and young adults.

For children aged 8 to 12 with a passion for art, there is a monthly art club from 10.30am - 12noon on Saturdays throughout February to May. Each month, a different theme will be explored with previous workshops focusing on still life and using charcoal and acrylics. The classes are taking place on 7 February, 7 March, 11 April and 2 May, and the theme will be announced a week beforehand. Each workshop costs £2 and booking in advance is advised.

For young people aged 17 and over looking to have fun and learn a new craft skill, there is a chance to experience printmaking on 14 or 21 February from 2 - 4pm, and decorative stitching on 11 or 18 April from 2 - 4pm. Both sessions are ideal for beginners or more experienced crafters, and all materials are provided. Each session costs £8 and booking in advance is advised.

The museum is also supporting those who are achieving the Explore, Discover or Bronze Arts Awards, which is a national project for those aged 25 and under and is run by Trinity College London in association with Arts Council England.

Councillor Howard Burrell, Executive Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport said, “These classes provide something for everyone. From children developing their interest in art or gaining their Explore, Discover or Bronze Art Awards, or young adults looking to develop a new craft skill, these sessions will provide a fun and inspirational environment to get creative in.”
