Christmas Waste and Recycling

21 Dec 2017

With visitors, parties and presents galore we are anticipating an increase in household waste and recycling over the holiday period.

To help lighten the Christmas load, we will collect up to three sacks of additional refuse with your first black bin collection after 25 December. Please place these sacks next to your refuse bin. Waste left outside the black bin but not next to the bin will be treated as fly-tipping. Christmas trees that are left outside of the brown bin but not next to the bin will also be viewed as fly-tipping and treated accordingly.

Our waste and recycling services will operate on a slightly changed calendar to allow for the bank holidays. You can check the changes to your collection dates below. Please put your materials out for collection after 7pm on the day before your collection but before 7am on the day of your collection. If you live in a flat block please place your waste out for collection in the usual way. You can download your own version of the collection calendar using the following link:

What to do with your….

Real Christmas Tree - We will collect real Christmas trees placed in your brown bin or to the side of the bin. Please make sure you remove all decorations. You can recycle real Christmas trees in your brown bin or placed to the side of your bin on your recycling collection day, up until the end of January.

Wrapping Paper - Not all wrapping paper can be recycled, so please put this in your black wheelie bin or reuse it where possible.

Christmas Cards - Try reusing cards by making them into next year’s gift tags. If you can’t re-use them, you can take them to be recycled at special banks at local supermarkets.

Christmas food waste - For tips on how two save money and reduce your waste visit www.lovefoodhatewaste.com.

Remember that the food you do throw away such as veg peelings, turkey bones, tea bags, eggs shells and plate scrapings, can be recycled in your brown bin using compostable bags with the compostable logo or wrapped in newspaper.
