Teenagers rejuvenate garden for sheltered housing residents

28 Jun 2017

Young volunteers from the Prince’s Trust are building a garden bench for the residents at our sheltered housing scheme Truro Court as well as painting and repairing fences.

The teenagers will also run social events for residents when the work is complete, including a tea party and a bingo session, in the summer.

The young volunteers are being supervised and supported by the Prince’s Trust and will receive a qualification for their work. All materials were supplied by the charity and the teenagers also raised funds themselves.

The charity, which helps young people get into jobs, education and training, has established a relationship with housing staff and residents at Truro Court.

Volunteers ran a coffee morning and raffle in the spring and came back a second time to play bingo with the residents.

The two generations chatted and shared stories and one of the teenagers felt confident enough to sing for the residents. Six of the young people who helped with those events have gone on to get a job or go to college.
