Electric car club launches

20 Feb 2017

Stevenage Borough Council has worked with a private car club to bring a fleet of electric cars to Stevenage for people to use as a greener transport alternative. We installed four electric car charging bays by the leisure centre station ramp for the cars, offered for hire by E-Car Club.

The pay-as-you-go cars are available for public use, and some council staff will use them if they have to travel for work.

The cars cost £5.50 an hour to hire, including insurance and fuel. Vehicles are available 24/7 year-round, and can be booked online or via the E-Car Club app. E-Car Club are currently running an introductory offer of a half price lifetime membership fee of £25 (normally £50) and two free driving hours. To take advantage of this promotion, sign-up online and enter code: DH117 into the promotional code field. The offer expires on 31 March 2017.

E-Car Club’s Renault Zoe hatchbacks have an average range of 70-90 miles per charge. The cars are parked in blue bays, prepared by the council as part of our work to support green transport in the town.

Car clubs are well established in London, often used by people who do not always need a car or want to avoid annual running costs including insurance, maintenance, road tax and parking.
