Skin piercing treatments registration

To offer skin-piercing treatments - including tattooing, acupuncture, ear and body piercing - both the person performing the treatment and the premises must be registered with the local authority. In some areas you may need a licence from the local authority.

Licence Conditions

You must provide specific information including details of your premises and any previous convictions for practicing without a licence in this field.

Service Standards

We will acknowledge receipt of your application within 4 working days.

We will expect to issue a certificate of registration within 28 days.

Licence Fees and Charges

The authority will charge the following fee depending on your application type:

Acupuncture, Tattooing, Ear-piercing and Electrolysis

  • Registration of premises & one person £414
  • Reistration of premises only £268
  • Registration of persons £168

This fee can be paid on-line to process your application. The fee is the same whether you apply on-line or by post (businesslink.gov.uk or UK Welcomes does not charge an additional fee for on-line applications).

Application Process

Once an application has been made with the appropriate fee, an inspector will undertake an inspection of the premises. If the inspector considers the applicant's procedures and the premises to be suitable, then registration will be approved.

The Inspector will check compliance with the byelaw requirements as well as ensuring that general health and safety requirements are being met. The inspector will be pleased to offer any advice or give any help if you are unsure as to how to meet these obligations.

Will Tacit Consent Apply?
