The initiative works in local communities to improve play opportunities for children aged 5 - 14 years through the following activities:
- Free play activity sessions after school, taking place in parks, open spaces and community centre’s.
- Free play activity sessions in school holidays, taking place in parks and open spaces.
Children under 5 years old may attend if accompanied by a responsible adult at all times. The programmes and equipment etc are more suitable for children over 5 years old. We aim to achieve equal opportunities for all children, with due regard for their ability, colour, creed, race and gender.
Whilst playscheme is more flexible than school, antisocial behaviour e.g. name calling, swearing and fighting will be challenged. Where a child has repeated difficulties, play staff may contact parents for support or exclude a child for a defined period.
Our Playschemes are “Drop-in Facilities”. Children are free to join or leave at any time during a session. Please note that we are NOT a childminding service.
