Housing Association - Nomination to be housed by an RSL
Housing Associations are 'Registered Social Landlords' and provide social housing in a very similar way to the Council.
Eligible applicants on the Council’s housing and transfer registers may be offered a Housing Association home instead of a Council home.
The Council works closely with several Housing Associations to develop affordable housing for rent and shared ownership.
Many Housing Associations already own property for rent in Stevenage and the Council has nomination rights to many of these homes when they become empty. Eligible applicants on our transfer or housing registers can express an interest in being nominated for a Housing Association property when they have sufficient points to receive an offer.
Housing Associations offer "assured tenancies" which offer security similar to a Council tenancy. There is a special Tenants Charter which protects tenants' rights.
Can Housing Association Tenants Transfer to a Council Property?
Housing Association tenants in Stevenage can apply to join the Council’s transfer register if they are in housing need. Applications are prioritised in the same way as our own tenants on the transfer register.
