Our plans involve building new council homes in the town and improving the current stock, so that homes are sustainable, safe and comfortable and suit tenants’ needs. The council is also committed to improving housing for older people, to meet the needs of the town’s ageing population.

5 Year Plan

Our plans for the next 5 years include

  • building over 300 new council homes - this will provide housing to help those most in need.
  • developing and improving specialist older people’s housing – including a brand new sheltered housing scheme.
  • carrying out improvements to purpose-built blocks of flats in the town.
  • continuing work to insulate properties, making them more energy-efficient and reducing residents’ fuel bills.
  • continuing Decent Homes improvements.
  • transforming the way we deliver housing services to better meet the needs of our customers.
  • making better use of technology and improving the way our customers can access services online.
