Flexicare

Flexicare is independent living where you rent your own property ranging from a studio to a two bedroom flat or bungalow with the added bonus of care services on site. This enables us to provide the right level of support and care to help you maintain your independence in your own home.

We have two flexicare schemes:

The supported housing staff will provide a 24 hours a day, seven days a week response to emergency calls.

  • To support older and disabled people to live independently in their own home
  • To help improve your quality of life
  • To help improve your personal safety and security by giving you reassurance and peace of mind.
  • To involve and consult you to promote choice
  • To provide flexible care and support to your changing needs.

How to apply

To move into flexicare you must be on our housing register.

  • You must require assistance with your personal care and or daily living tasks.
  • You must be an older person who will benefit from flexicare. A place may be offered to a younger person on disability grounds in exceptional cases.
  • You will be required to have an independent living and care assessment to ensure we can meet your care and support needs.

If you are interested in Flexicare please complete our referral form.

Costs

There are four elements to the cost of flexicare housing:

  • rent
  • service charges for maintenance and any shared facilities
  • support costs
  • care costs

These will be discussed with you during your assessment.

The care team

The care staff are a permanent team of carers who work at Silkin Court and Fred Millard Court. They are all experienced and fully trained to assist you with the following:

  • Personal care (assisting you to wash, dress and prepare food);
  • Personal care emergencies, 24 hours a day at Silkin Court and until 9pm at Fred Millard Court;
  • Practical support (carrying out your laundry, housework and shopping);
  • Health care including administering your medication
  • Social support such as helping you to and from social activities.

Some staff are specially trained in dementia and hearing aid equipment.

The short stay unit

There is a short stay unit at Silkin Court where you are welcome to come and stay to see if you would like living in Flexicare before you make the decision to move. There is a small daily charge for this, please contact us for further information.

As part of our assessment process we may recommend that you come to the short stay unit to make sure that we can meet your needs.

Next steps

If you would like to arrange a visit to our flexicare scheme or find out more information please can contact the supported housing team.

There is a waiting list for flexicare and a panel meeting is held each month to discuss current applicants. Properties are then allocated by matching care and support needs and the suitability of the property.
