Community and Day Centres

The Council supports numerous community and day centres that provide a range of activities and facilities for groups of people.

Stevenage is well served by fourteen community centres and Douglas Drive Senior Citizens Association. The centres are spread across the town and located within easy reach of the neighbourhood shopping areas. Supported by the Council, each centre acts as a focal point for community activities and provides vital space for voluntary and community groups to meet for social events.

Stevenage Community centres are managed by a Community Association, whose membership includes representatives from the local community. The Associations are involved in many activities in their communities, which seek to address local needs. Most centres are registered charities.

Community centres are always keen to attract new interest, both from people wishing to serve as volunteers on management committees or supporting work within the centre.

The centres are open to all ages and can be hired for wedding receptions, training or meeting purposes as well as social events.

Stevenage Community Centres have seen many changes, including a new centre at Great Ashby. The latest development has been at the Bedwell Centre, which has undergone major redevelopment and now boasts a new hall and additional rooms.

Each centre is unique in the activities on offer and playing a vital role in each neighbourhood.

"SCAG" Stevenage Community Association Group is a forum that enables representatives from the community centres in Stevenage to meet up and discuss issues that relate to them as individual centres and broader issues relating to the town as a whole. SCAG meets on a quarterly basis and members share knowledge and experience.
