Food Hygiene - Scores on the Doors

Stevenage Borough Council has introduced a scheme called "Scores on the Doors". The idea is for all food businesses inspected by officers from Environmental Health to be given a score on how well they have performed in terms of hygiene, structural condition and overall attitude to complying with the law.

Following a food hygiene inspection a business is given a certificate which includes a score. The score ranges from 0 stars (poor) to 5 stars (excellent). It is voluntary for the businesses to display the certificate but if it is displayed then it must be seen from outside the premises, i.e. on the front door or window.

The aim of the scheme is to improve food hygiene standards in the Borough and also to give the public a more informed choice about where to eat based on food safety.

There are approximately 400 food businesses in Stevenage that will be subject to the scheme. It is hoped that within the next 2 years they will all be inspected and scored. An up to date list of scores will be posted on this page as soon as inspections are done.

The score is only a reflection of conditions found on the day of the inspection and standards may have gone up or down since.
