Completed consultation

Café Choice

What did we do?

We set up marquis in the town centre in December 2010 and at Stevenage Day in June 2011 and asked people their views on what the council’s priorities should be. Café Choice is a way of bringing consultation into the community. We asked residents to drop into Café Choice for a hot drink and a chance to influence decisions that affect them.

Why did we consult?

We wanted to find out which council services residents valued the most and what areas the council needs to work on.

How will the results be used?

The results were used to inform our budget savings processes and our corporate planning processes. In order words, peoples views impacted on decisions made around necessary service reductions and the council’s priorities and focus for the future.

Voluntary Sector Summit

What did we do?

Stevenage Borough Council held a summit in partnership with Stevenage CVS on 22 January 2011 to inform the voluntary and community sector in the borough of the reduction in the Council’s budget and involve them in discussions on ways to sustain themselves in the challenging economic climate so that this important work can continue.

Why did we consult?

It was part of a series of consultations planned by the Council to gather views from the voluntary and community sector on a range of areas that affect its viability – including staffing, trustees, volunteers, support services, income generation and business sustainability.

How will the results be used?

Feedback from the summit workshops and responses to a questionnaire will provide qualitative and quantitative information that will inform the Stevenage voluntary and community sector strategy and work programme that will be developed through the course of 2011.

Residents' Survey

What did we do?

In 2009, Stevenage Borough Council carried out a face-to-face survey with a number of its residents in order to see how well it is doing. Between September and December 2009 Opinion Research Services (ORS), an expert market research company, carried out the survey on our behalf.

Why did we consult?

The survey asked for residents’ opinions about Stevenage Borough Council’s services to help us measure satisfaction levels among our residents, and to see where we can improve.

How will the results be used?

Councillors and senior management will be using the results to inform workshop sessions. These will involve making decisions on how we need to prioritise the Council’s budget and make real improvements to our residents’ quality of life.

Community Conference

What did we do?

We held our annual Community Conference in September to provide you with an opportunity to influence how we deliver services.

Why did we consult?

It is important that we continue to work closely with communities and obtain the views of our residents on how they would like resources spent to make services more responsive to their needs.

How did we inform you of the results?

Each participant was sent a letter and a summary of the views expressed on the day with our response.
