Take Part

Stevenage’s Take Part project ran from 2009 to 2011. It developed and delivered a range of programmes to help people gain skills and knowledge to become empowered as members of their communities.

Stevenage Borough Council worked closely with the World Forum for Ethnic Communities and Hertfordshire County Council to provide training and other learning experiences to help people influence decisions about their local area and get more involved in community activities.

The Take Part programme is all about empowering individuals who may currently feel they do not have a voice within the community but want to be heard and want to get involved in decisions within their community.  Through the programme Take Part participants develop a number of skills which will enable them to become a much more active citizen, including:

  • Confidence
  • Public speaking
  • IT
  • Community leadership.

Further information about the project is available on the 'Take Part' website.

A number of resources were produced by the project to provide advice and guidance on different ways to take part and become an active citizen. Links to these are available to the right of this page under 'Related pages'.
