The Council maintains the cleanliness and tidiness of streets and street furniture.

Abandoned Vehicles
The Council will deal with any vehicles reported as abandoned on land in the open air maintained at public expense (and on private property upon request/authorisation).
Blocked Drains
The Council provides help and advice on highway drainage, land drainage or private drainage and may arrange for clearance of a blocked drain.
Dead Animals
The Council aims to remove dead animals from land in the open air maintained at public expense within the hour.
Dog Fouling
Under the Dogs (Fouling of Land) Act 1996, any person who permits a dog that is in their charge to foul any area to which the public has access is committing an offence.
Flyposting
The Council is responsible for the removal of illegally posted advertisements, leaflets etc. on council property in the area.
Flytipping
The Council has responsibility for acting on reports of flytipping on land in the open air maintained at public expense to both remove the waste and to locate and prosecute the offenders.
Graffiti
Provision of a facility whereby members of the public can report graffiti to the Council.
Litter Bins
Litter in a public place is unsightly, unsafe and unpleasant, dangerous to animals and pedestrians, and an offence.
Market Cleaning
The Council is responsible for keeping the local market grounds clean and free from litter.
Public Conveniences
Provision of public conveniences; where these are provided the Council is also responsible for maintenance and cleaning of the facilities.
Road Spillages
The Council is responsible for keeping the highway clean and free from spillages. Where spillages are of a hazardous nature the local police and fire service may also be involved in the incident and road closures may be required.
Street Cleaning Programme
The Council’s street cleansing programme provides a frequent cleansing of streets, gullies, car parks, public conveniences and other public areas to remove litter, build up of leaves or any other conditions which could pose a risk to public health and safety.
Street Furniture
Provision and maintenance of street furniture such as seating, decorative lighting, cycle racks etc. to enhance local public areas.
Street Litter (including Street Sweeping)
The Council's streets are divided into zones, depending on the volume of traffic using the streets each day. The more frequently the road is used, the more often it will be swept.

Syringes
The Council will arrange for the removal and disposal of needles, syringes and other drug related items that are discarded in the environment and which may pose a risk to public safety.
Vandalism
The Council implements measures and works with local communities and agencies to reduce the impact of vandalism in local areas.
Walls
Maintenance and repair of walls or fences in a state of disrepair where there is a risk to public safety. This includes highway retaining walls and walls providing a safety barrier.
Dangerous structures and public safety
The Council has a responsibility to deal with buildings that have become dangerous due to old age, deterioration or settlement, or by more dramatic causes.
