Floral Displays & Hanging Baskets

We provide floral displays to roundabouts across Stevenage, and hanging baskets to the Town Centre and High Street.

Many of the floral displays are sponsored by local business. If you would like to sponsor a floral display in the town see the link below.

Maintenance of hanging baskets and floral displays

Seasonal bedding is planted out twice a year.

Winter / Spring displays are planted out in October, following clearance of the summer displays. The beds are maintained every 3-4 weeks to keep them tidy and clear of weeds.

The summer displays are planted out in May, following clearance of the spring displays. The beds are visited 3 times a month to remove weeds and dead flowers, and to keep the beds tidy.

To report a problem with floral displays please complete the online report form Your report will be investigated within two working days and, where necessary, the works will be completed within 7 working days.

The large ‘dot’ plants, used in the summer displays, are kept over winter and used again the following year.

All other bedding plants are composted with the shrub and hedge clippings from our pruning operations. This compost is then used on the allotments and the floral roundabout displays.

Watering of hanging baskets and floral displays

Watering of hanging baskets and floral displays is carried out as required. During wet summers less irrigation will be required, and during dry winters it may be necessary to irrigate hanging baskets and containers.

We have tried to reduce the amount of water that we use by:

  • Using water retaining crystals
  • Watering either early in the morning or in the evening. Watering at these times of day reduces evaporation, and the amount of water required.

We work closely with the water company to ensure that we are acting legally in our use of water, and that we are using this important resource wisely.
