Census 2011

What is the census?

In England and Wales the census is planned and carried out by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). A census in England and Wales is run every ten years. Every household is asked to complete a census questionnaire. This information is used by ONS to provide population estimates which government, local authorities and other organisations use to fund, plan and deliver public services such as healthcare, education, housing and transport.

What are the job roles?

Through 2010 Capita will be recruiting for a number of census roles on behalf of the Office for National Statistics (ONS), many of which can be fitted around full-time employment or other commitments.

You can also register your interest for jobs that will be available later in the year: Area Managers and Census Co-ordinators to lead and motivate teams, as well as Census Distributors, Collectors and Special Enumerators to knock on doors, collect questionnaires and offer help and advice on completing them. ONS will also be recruiting Census Coverage Survey & Non Compliance staff in early 2011.
