National Graduate Development Programme (NGDP)
The National Graduate Development Programme was launched in 2002.
Since its launch the NGDP has become a key tool in the recruitment and development of leadership potential in local government. The programme which is centrally managed by the Improvement and Development Agency attracts over 2,000 applicants a year from aspiring graduates for the 100 places available.
Successful graduates, or National Management Trainees (NMTs) as they are known undertake an intensive two year development programme within their host authority as well as attending national training events with fellow NMTs and completing the Post Graduate Diploma in Local Government Management at Warwick University.
The Council involved itself in the programme from the outset and employed NMTs in 2002 and 2004 and will take a third in 2006. If you would like to find out more about this national programme, contact Ian Cawthra on 01438-242222 or visit the NGDP website at www.ngdp.co.uk
