Biography
Born
19th June 1940 at Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire
Educated
Pocklington School, East Yorkshire
Family
I married Dilys in 1981 having previously been married and divorced. I have two daughters from my first marriage and two lovely granddaughters, Alexandria who is 8 and Georgina who is 5.
Profession
I qualified as a chartered accountant in 1963 in York. Between 1968 and 1984 worked for several companies involved in such diverse activities as motor vehicle distribution, employment agencies, toy manufacturing and stationery and office product manufacturing and distribution.
Since 1984 I have been a self employed chartered accountant based in Stevenage having moved to the town in 1976.
Politics
In 1964 I became the youngest ever member of Pocklington Parish Council. I have been a member of the Conservative Party for most of my adult life and have worked behind the scenes for the party in various constituencies.
I have represented the Woodfield Ward on Stevenage Borough Council since its creation following boundary changes in 1999. I became leader of the Conservative group in 2000.
I am Vice Chairman of the Highways Joint Members Panel.
Other interests
I enjoy playing golf (usually very badly). I was Captain of Knebworth Golf Club in 1995. I also enjoy watching football; Dilys and I are both season ticket holders at Broadhall Way.
Purpose in life
To try to make a contribution, however small, to the improvement in the lives of my fellow human beings.
