Reduction due to a disability

There is a reduction for people whose dwellings contain special features required to meet the needs of a disabled person (adult or child) who resides in the dwelling. Those special features must be:

Reduction due to a disability is considered on written application to the Council. If a reduction is given, the Council will require applications to be annually renewed.

Reduction due to a disability is awarded by moving the dwelling into the next Valuation Band down, e.g. a property originally in band B would be moved to band A after a reduction had been allowed. (From 1 April 2000 a property in Band A will receive a reduction of 1/9th).

If your bill shows that a reduction has been given, you must tell the Council of any changes that affect your reduction, within 21 days of the change.

If you have been given a reduction on your bill the Council will periodically send you a form to confirm whether it still applies. If you do not return the form your reduction may be cancelled.
