Pension Credit

Pension credit is paid by The Pension Service (part of the Department of Works and Pension)

Pension credit can be claimed if you are over 60 years old it consists of two parts

Guaranteed Pension Credit: will provide a level of income for everyone aged over the age of 60. For a single person the level of income is £132.60 per week and £202.40 per week for a couple. Extra amounts will be paid if you qualify for severe disability addition or you are a carer.

Savings Credit: Is payable for people aged 65 and over that have modest savings and extra in come such as private pensions. The maximum amount of savings credit is £20.52 per week for a single person £27.09 for a couple.

If you or your partner is aged 65 or over you may be able to get both a Guaranteed Credit and Savings Credit.

If you receive Guaranteed Pension Credit   this will entitle you to the maximum eligible amount of Housing and Council Tax benefit (unless there is a non- dependant in the property)

If you receive Savings Credit and your capital is below £16,000 you can make a claim for Housing/Ctax benefit

Most claims are made by telephone by ringing The Pension Credit application line on 0800 99 1234 you can also download a claim form from www.direct.gov.uk.
