Introduction
We are responsible for paying both Council Tax and Housing benefits to people who live in the town.
Council Tax and Housing benefit are allowances to help those on a low income pay their Council Tax and rent for their home.
Both benefits are 'means tested'. When you apply, we must look at:
- the money you have coming in
- how many people are in your family
- your age
- any savings you have
- the number of non-dependants living in your household.
As similar rules apply to Council Tax and Housing benefit you will only need to complete one application form and provide all of the required evidence once.
