Licence - riding establishment
In order to provide riding lessons or hire out horses for payment, a licence is required under the Riding Establishments Acts 1964 and 1970.
The Council issues Licenses and licence applications are subject to a satisfactory vets inspection. We may impose additional conditions before issuing a licence.
No person may operate a riding establishment without first obtaining a licence from the Council.
There is an application fee which must be paid at the time of application. Currently the fee is £200 (plus vet’s fees).
Where a licence is granted, that licence and any subsequent licence will expire on the 31 December of the year which the licence relates and must be renewed before the expiry if the premises are to continue as a riding establishment.
Before a licence is granted the applicant must be able to demonstrate to the Council’s Licensing Officer that the premises comply with the Council's Standard Licensing Conditions.
If you would like further information, or would like to apply for a licence, please contact the Council’s Environmental Health & Licensing Division on 01438 242908/242916, email envhealth@stevenage.gov.uk or, alternatively, download a copy of the application form. (See link below).
