Health and Safety at work - regulation and inspection

The Council carries out regular checks on local businesses and business premises to ensure that safe and healthy working conditions are provided for all employees and visitors.

The Council's environmental health division is responsible for enforcing the Health and Safety at Work Act in offices, shops, warehouses, catering premises, residential accommodation, leisure and consumer services, to protect the safety and welfare of employers and the public.

The Health and Safety Executive ensures that risks to people's health and safety from work activities are properly controlled in areas such as industrial premises, transport, factories and construction sites.
