Sustainability and Climate Change

Stevenage Borough Council is committed to a sustainable approach in all its services in order to help achieve maximum benefit for the community. The council aims to rise to the challenge through leading by example to respond to the challenges of the Climate Change Act and a sustainable future. The council recognises that it cannot achieve all this on its own and is committed to working with strategic partnerships, business and our local community in Stevenage to help to make a positive difference.

The commitment extends to exploring opportunities and funding to:

  • target reductions in energy use and the contribution they make to climate change in Stevenage;
  • minimise emissions of carbon dioxide from all sectors (commercial, domestic, industrial and transport) through energy efficiency, combined heat and power, renewable energy and other appropriate technologies;
  • help to eradicate fuel poverty by providing affordable warmth for the most vulnerable groups in Stevenage;
  • to contributing to the local economy where ever practicable by increasing job opportunities and innovation in the delivering sustainable energy and improving housing and other building stock;
  • increase and encourage waste minimisation and efficient recycling;
