Stevenage and North Herts Area Action Plan (SNAP)

The Stevenage and North Hertfordshire Action Plan (SNAP) will direct the future growth of Stevenage to the north and west.

Key Issues and Options

The key issues and options document is the first stage in preparing planning policies.

What is the Stevenage and North Hertfordshire Area Action Plan (SNAP)?

The Stevenage and North Hertfordshire Area Action Plan (also known as SNAP) will contain planning policies to direct the future growth of Stevenage to the north and west.  This is being prepared as a response to the proposals within the East of England Plan.  The East of England Plan is the regional spatial strategy for the period 2001 to 2021 and is expected to be published early 2008.  It is likely to require substantial growth in and around Stevenage, including land within North Herts.  SNAP is the document which will  guide the development of new homes, new employment areas, and  associated services to support the new neighbourhoods.

Stevenage Borough Council and North Hertfordshire District council are working together to prepare SNAP, as the planning policies will cover land within the boundaries of both authorities.

What are Key Issues and Options?

No decisions have been made on the contents of planning polices in SNAP.  The Key issues and options document is the first stage of policy preparation. SNAP identifies what we think are the relevant issues and options that  need to be addressed. Your comments will help us shape the next more detailed stage of consultation called the Preferred Options expected in 2008.

Can I comment?

The Key Issues and Alternative Options consultation has now closed. We are currently considering all of the responses we received. We will use these to inform the next stage of this document, which will be called the Preferred Options. We aim to consult on this document later in 2008.
