Holding Direction

On Monday 13 November 2017 the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government issued a direction under section 21a of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 (inserted by section 145(5) of the Housing and Planning Act 2016) to Stevenage Borough Council, not to take any step in connection with the adoption of the Core Strategy. This holding direction has been triggered by a request from Stephen McPartland MP to intervene in the Stevenage Borough Local Plan. The Secretary of State is considering whether to issue a direction under section 21 of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004.

The direction will remain in force until the Secretary of State either withdraws it or gives a direction under section 21 of the 2004 Act in relation to the Plan.

The Stevenage Borough Local Plan was examined by an independent Planning Inspector (appointed by the Planning Inspectorate), following its submission in July 2016. The Inspectors Report was received by the Borough Council on 18 October 2017. This concludes that, subject to the Main Modifications proposed, the Stevenage Borough Local Plan is sound and is capable of being adopted.

The Borough Council will be working with DCLG colleagues to resolve any issues they may have with the draft plan.
